Holiday

Wed Jul 12, 2006, 1:24 AM
Well spent a week learning to ski. That was fun. Did something to my knee on the last day and now I can't walk too well, but it's getting better so don't everyone send me flowers and chocolate just yet. Just send money. It was fun, but in all honesty Australia, being a country that resides three quarters of a mile from the Sun, really doesn't look like it's cut out to have snow. Yet Australians persist, and ski in the mountains. Perisher has 40 ski lifts apparently. When we got there an impressive five were open, and when we left I think 24 were open. Not that I actually saw more than about six. All in all a good time was had, and it was fun to spend a week with my best friend, girlfriend, and some other people who we won't mention again.

So now I'm here (or there, depending on where you're sitting), bored out of my brain, minding the house. Rest of the family saw fit to scatter themselves about the continent. Yep... pretty bored. Maybe I can still swing by the bakery...

This journal entry is dedicated to my new favourite piece of software, Sketchup (www.sketchup.com). As an Industrial Designer (Architects will find this program even more useful), it always helps if I can create quick 3D visualisations of my concepts. Normally I do this with blue polystyrene foam, a hot wire cutter (melts the foam with a hot wire) and sandpaper (fine touches). However if I get an idea late at night, that sucks because I can't get to the workshop. Long story short, this program does "sketch-modelling" exceptionally well. Think of it as a barebones 3DStudio. I don't know if it can animate yet, but it is certainly capable of exporting to all the big CAD formats, which is also great. I built some cool futuristic skyscrapers just while I was messing around with the tools. I have to say, this program is fantastic. I highly recommend it to 3D Modellers/Concept artists/Designers/Architects/Planners, and anyone who likes to make stuff! Well worth the (relatively) modest price tag. Anyway I think you can get a demo, so even if you don't use CAD much, d/l it and have a shot, it's fun to play with!

Well that's my 2 copper, Oh, and no, I wasn't paid by anyone to say this.

And so ends my shameless plug.

Untitled entry? Can I say that?

Well 2006 is well and truly not underway for me. I've had very little work (web design), and as such am still exceedingly poor after the Christmas spendathon. On the upside I have a Digital SLR. I know I've mentioned it 1000 times already, but I love it, it's my baby. Anyway, as a corollary (Spelling?) to this lack of work, I've been spending a lot of time with my old friend/enemy, World of Warcraft. Fun fun fun...
Anyway, hopefully I can screenshot "1,337 pageviews" that would be cool.

Happy New Year (belated)

Wed Jan 11, 2006, 4:20 AM
First things first, I'd like to wish everyone out there all the best for 2006. Hope it's a productive one, and if your 2005 was anything like mine I hope it turns out significantly better than your 2005 :P God uni sucks...

Well Christmas was fun, and I'd like to wish you all an even more belated Merry Christmas, and if you object to me wishing you a Merry Christmas on the grounds of political correctness, take this token, it's good for one screening of the new smash hit film "Go Fuck Yourself". If you object for more philosophical reasons, please, I mean no offence other than to wish you a period of prosperity and happiness, and your disapproval of my general wellwishing is noted.

In other news I've decided that most of the stuff that's going to appear on my dA account in future will be photography. This is because a) Most of my design work is done for clients and it would be unethical for me to offer it for free and under my own copyright on this page, and b) I upgraded from my old Sony DSC-P72 3.2mp camera to the fantastic, sexy, and all-in-all orgasmic Olympus E-500 Digital SLR (8.0 mp - now featured in my avatar!). How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

If you are reading this, then you are über-bored, no?

Well, to quote Family Guy,
Time to hit the dusty trail...
